46 Days later…A PANTSing Success and Triumphant Return!

After 46 Days of driving, sleeping in a tent, living of crackers, peanut butter, and apples, and just a bit more driving we have returned home! Home to warm beds… families… cooked vegetables… being able to sleep in (a bit)…

Sometimes its good to go to extremes

We cannot begin to express what a crazy-great time we had. There is so much to show and tell! If you’ve followed our blog, you know a bit about our adventures (if not, get on the bandwagon and read the posts below). A great BIG thank you again to everyone who helped us along the way and to everyone who has kept in touch and supported us through reading our blog and spreading the word. BUT WE’RE NOT DONE YET!!!!!

Our adventure was the first step towards what we hope to accomplish. Our filming is done (for the most part) and now it is time to make something of all we have seen. Our first move will be to look through the footage we’ve lovingly collected over the last couple of months and hopefully use some of it in the workshop we’re planning for a Millennium Scholarship Regional Conference going on in Hamilton this weekend, November 6th-8th.

Many updates and even some video clips will be made available as we continue to edit and plan out the film over the winter months. So please continue to check up on and not forget about us chums, as we want to keep you all informed and excited about our project!

Thank you all encore,
(and a welcome home PANTS to us!)

Susie and Robin

I say POWER you say SHIFT!

The PowerShift conference about climate change and making a difference in Ottawa over the weekend was AMAZING! Youth from every part of Canada came to show their support! On the 24th we attended the “Fill the Hill” event at Parliament Hill as part of the International Day of Climate Action . The event demonstrated the power held by youth committed to action, putting faces (and bodies!) to the growing green movement in Canada.
We had the opportunity to talk to and learn from and inspiring cast of folks attending and running the event. It was simply awe-inspiring to see how much an idea by just 1 or 2 people can grow into a nation-wide gathering of ~2500.
There are some great youtube video of the event… we will post a few for you soon!

So now we are back on our home turf, the Toronto area, and about to do the last interview on our trip today!!! We are literally two adorable balls of emotion to be so near the end of this spectacular adventure.

PANTS!

There is SNOW on the car!

Hello Again!

We have now officially been to all provinces we were able to visit (Sorry territories and Newfoundland- we DO love you still)

So we have been to Cape Breton. We saw snow (shudder) and went for a ‘we want to see a moose in this country somewhere’ hike – no luck. Though the hike was great and we had an awe-inspiring view of the Gulf of the St. Lawrence.

We then headed on to the wonderous province of PEI! We toured around and talked to some people in Charlottetown and went on a lighthouse tour around the island! And of course visited Anne of Green Gables.

On to New Brunswick! Where we stayed in Moncton (and learned about a wonderous band!) and had a far too fun of time at Magnetic Hill!
We have also spent the last few days learning all about tides! The process of learning about the tides was a difficult one for one/both of us but we feel we get it more now. Every day the moon does tricky things to oceans. Here’s two pictures at Hopewall Rocks taken only a hour or two apart:

We are now heading out of the maritimes and back to Ottawa for the PowerShift conference this weekend! It will be great beyond recognition and we feel very professional as we will be given ‘media passes’ for the event.

Then its back to our hinterlands (aka St. Thomas and Belmont, Ontario). It’s a bittersweet thing to be heading home because as much fun as we have had, we will be happy to be in our own beds once again and see all our marvvy friends and family.

Now if you’ll please excuse us, we have to go dig out our car from under the mass of snow that has fallen while we’ve sipped our coffees and written to you fine folks.

Au revoir et PANTS,

Robin & Susie

Oh My!
We have been through 2 more provinces since we updated you last!

Let us see… what are some GREAT highlights to share…

First off, I’m sure you’ve been wondering, how did these lovely ladies enjoy their Thanksgiving? I will tell you through a picture:
Cooking le 'roast'

As you can see our holiday dinner was WONDERFUL! Very rustic and very delicious. And we made everything ourselves!

We also visited Fredericton, New Brunswick (that’s where Roger is in the picture up there…) and learned all about a fellow by the name of Beaverbrook and saw our first maritime lighthouse!!!
Lighthouse on The Green

We then drove on over to Nova Scotia!!! And that is where we are now.
Nova Scotia

We just left Halifax and yesterday we met up with Andy and John of Open Arms in Kentville to talk to them about the great work they, and the community are doing.
Now we’re heading to Cape Breton to see some sites!

Oh! Aaaaaaaand we touched the Atlantic Ocean today!!! Very cold, especially when a wave splashed me and my pants were quite soaked. Much fun and good thing I packed extra jeans!

until next time,

PANTS love(s you),

Susie & Robin

Happy Thanksgiving! Bonne mange de la dande!

Alright so our translation skills are a bit, well, awful. But we mean well, we really do.

We are spending our Thanksgiving Sunday in Quebec City, enjoying the lovely scenery and excellent coffees quite a bit! Yesterday we visited Montreal and ate poutine (well Susie had just fries with gravy for heath…) and today’s mission is to have amazing French crepes!

Some highlights since we changed direction and started heading Eastwardly…

~ Stayed in Edmonton and did the West Edmonton Mall and waterpark!

~ Visited Winnipeg and stayed with Susie’s relatives there. Thanks again to Anastasia for the amazing breakfast!

~ Drove for 3 days straight across Northern Ontario. So pretty in fall.

~ Checked out Sudbury. It was a perfect balance of scenery and science, ahhh.

~ Visited Ottawa and stayed with my old roommate Natalie and her new roommate Justin. Filmed on Parliament Hill! :-)

~ Spent a a day in Montreal and got mega lost but walked a lot. Go health!

Next stop Maritimes, can’t wait!

As always, we miss all your little faces!

PANTS (love),

Happy End of September!

P1090166

We have survived the north and are now continuing East! Northern BC and AB were a different kind of awesome. Many trees, cows, horses, LLAMMAS, and some people.

Places we visited and highlights:

Whistler, BC – Went on the Peak-2-Peak Gondola and Robin didn’t even freak out!

Dawson(’s) Creek, BC – We tried to find Pacey, but failed. Also failed trying to get to the awesome windmills that we could see, but after an hour or so decided we could not.

Girouxville, AB – Bilingual city with a fun farm equipment museum. And very few people (we were the only people outside. Eerie).

Falher, AB – Another Bilingual City. Also the Honeybee Capital of Canada… they are the proud owners of the largest bee monument in the world.

Slave Lake, AB – Great beachside camping AND a newly opened tea house/country store called Robin’s Nest with the best Chai Latte EVER. Actually.

We are now livin’ it up in Edmonton, AB . Stay tuned!

Our stay in the West

Today we are leaving the wonderful city of Vancouver, where we have been busy the past few days.

It’s a great city where we met some great people and saw great things! I hear you asking “what people? what things?”. Well, I suppose we can tell you…

We have thus far done 3 of our interviews: Anna and Joel (Project World Citizen), Mark (Reel Youth), and Gavin (OA).

It was incredible to hear everything that they have been working for and how many people they have helped (You also will get to hear all this too when our documentary comes out!). The amount that a small number of people can achieve is phenomenal.

We have also visited some fun places whilst being here in Western BC, which we have photographed extensively for your viewing pleasures!

Here’s a selection of some of our favourite views:

Pacific Ocean

Stained glass window in castle.

City Park on Commercial Drive in Vancouver

Duncan, Vancouver Island

Sweet Vancity (Vancouver City) Murals

Canada, Out of Canada, Back in Canada

So day 2 of our journey is just winding down…

Want to know what happened?!!?

Driving… lots of driving.

We are heading out to BC for out first interviews, so today and yesterday we drove. A lot.

So far we have crossed 4 states, seen 3 Great Lakes, and have been questioned about our (awesome) car signs by two border guards! Currently, we are in back in Canada (Manitoba) and glad, because we know what the speed limit is…

We are excited that we can start filming more of Canada and talking to people along the way. Soon we’ll have more pictures and videos and great stories to share with you, so keep in touch!

PANTS Love!
